General Information
Appliances
Hotels in China provide hair dryers. Irons and ironing boards can be requested.
The room is wired for use of shavers and chargers for cell phones at V110.
Otherwise voltage is V220. Small adapters for international travel can be purchased
at appliance or hardware stores in the US.
Baggage
For flights to China and domestic flights in China, you may bring one checked bag
per person free of charge. Maximum weight of the bag should not exceed 44 lbs and
total dimensions (length, width and height) of the bag should not exceed 62 inches.
For returning international flights, you may bring two checked bags per person free
of charge. Maximum weight per each bag should not exceed 70 lbs
and the total dimensions (length, width and height) of the two bags should not exceed 107 inches.
You are also allowed one carry-on bag with total dimensions not exceeding 45 inches. This means
that going to and traveling within China by air, you can have only one checked bag
and one carry-on, but you can have 2 checked bags on the return international flight. One way to handle this
difference is to nest a smaller bag in your checked bag going over. Pack all the belongings you will take in the smaller
bag. As you are traveling through China, you can pack your purchases in the area of the bigger suitcase surrounding
the smaller one. Then after your last domestic flight, you can take the smaller bag out and use the excess space for
things you purchase. The flight from Shanghai to Beijing on your return is an international flight.
Clothing
Pack lightly and bring casual clothes. Attire for dinner is also casual, but shorts or sandals are not considered
appropriate. Jeans only if in good condition are allowed but not encouraged.
Currency
The US dollar can be exchanged for Chinese currency at airports or hotels (Currently the exchange rate is close to
8.00 Chinese yuan per US$1.00). ATM machines are available in China and major credit cards are accepted at many
stores. You need Chinese currency for taxis, shopping at street vendors, and smaller shops.
Expert English-Speaking Tour Guides
The tour guides are required to meet very strict professional requirements including English language proficiency,
knowledge of the history and culture in China, and congeniality toward our tour participants.
Flights
We customarily use Air China or China Eastern Airlines for our international flights. Meals are provided on board, and
movies are also available. Non-stop direct flight service from New York to Beijing takes about thirteen and a half hours.
Health
The local handling travel agency requires exclusion in China of any person rendered unsuitable for long trips by
health conditions such as mental illness, serious, chronic ailments, contagious disease, advanced pregnancy, senility
or infirmity. A significant amount of walking is involved, so participants must be fully mobile and able to keep an active
pace. Vaccinations are not required. Please check with your personal physician, travel agent or Public Health
Service for current required or recommended inoculations.
If your require wheelchair assistance, you will need to provide a traveling companion and wheelchair to assist you.
Many places will be wheelchair accessible. There will be some places that are not accessible to you.
Hotels
We offer the comfort of five-star or the best available hotel accommodations with full American breakfast in each city.
Superior first class hotels may be used in certain cities.
Itineraries
All programs have been created by China and Asia tour experts with many years of experience - not only designing
the tours to these destinations - but also living and working in that part of the world.
Local Contacts
We have set up an office in Beijing in order to better coordinate our tours and render immediate assistance - if needed
- to our clients during their stay in Asia. We also provide names and telephone numbers of contacts in each city, along
with a complete itinerary including hotel addresses and telephone numbers, to our passengers for every tour.
Meals
In addition to the breakfast buffet served at the hotel, our tours include lunch and dinner at select, on-site locations.
Farewell dinner parties are arranged near the end of the tour, and our itinerary includes special dinners, such as the
Peking duck dinner in Beijing, the dumpling dinner banquet in Xian, etc.
Passport
All passengers must have a passport which is valid for six months after the tour return date to the US, and
the passport must have at least one appropriate blank page for a visa. Make two copies of the first page of your
passport and your visa. Keep one with you separate from your passport and leave one with a trusted person
elsewhere.
Physical Condition
Each tour is stimulating and active, yet comfortable for those able to walk at an average pace for several hours of
sightseeing during some tour days.
Shopping
Time for shopping will be arranged at various sites during your tour for your convenience. You have responsibility for
any damages, payments, shipping or other problems of your purchases. It is each passenger’s responsibility to
contact stores directly.
Visa
A visa is required to travel to China. Applying for a visa through our tour organizer requires a non-refundable fee of
$75 per person. You must send your passport to Dr. Anastacia Samson along with your visa application and your final
payment 65 days or more before departure. The normal processing time will return your documents to you two to
three weeks before your tour. If you need your passport sooner, you can get expedited processing of your visa for an
